Introduction


This consultation on Integral Mission is for Christian workers working in South Asia and South East Asia.

Participants will select from one of the following streams (for plenary talks, workshops and seminars) for the durations of the consultation:

  • Integral Mission and Relief & Development
  • HIV/AIDS - Caregiving and Caring for Caregivers
  • Micah Challenge - forming national campaigns across Asia
All 3 streams will join together for meals, worship, bible teaching and daily updates from each stream and there will also be opportunities to interact with fellow workers from around the region outside the formal program.

Other workshops and case studies will also be offered.

HIV/AIDS – Caregiving and Caring for Caregivers

This track will focus on caregiving and caring for caregivers of people living with HIV/AIDS.

Participants will listen to HIV+ people and caregivers about their experiences of caregiving as well as from a range of Christian organisations responding to HIV/AIDS.

There will be a range of case studies and workshops to choose from, with options for those getting started in this work and also those who are very experienced.

The group will seek to capture its learnings in interactive sessions and contribute to Good Practices Guidelines on Caregiving and Caring for Caregivers, which will be finalised by the end of the consultation.

  • Plenary talk on Caring for Caregivers by Barbara Walker, CMS New Zealand
  • Plenary talk on HIV/AIDS challenges and opportunities for the region: Calle Almedal and Nye Nye Aye, UNAIDS Partnerships Unit
  • Workshop on mobilizing the church for caregiving – Oum Voutha and Rosalie Thompson, Innerchange Sunrise Project Cambodia
  • Workshop facilitated by Dr Janet Cornwall, Servants to Asia’s Urban Poor, Cambodia
  • Case study on caregiving by Dr. K. C. Nagpal and Timothy Gaikwad, IMCARES, Mumbai
  • Workshop facilitated by Prasit Sae Tang, Thai Concern Foundation
  • Case study presented by Adrienne Wiangyangkung-Blomberg, SIAM Care
Micah Challenge

The Micah Challenge is a global campaign to mobilize Christians against poverty.

The campaign aims to deepen Christian engagement with the poor and to influence leaders of rich and poor nations to fulfil their public promise to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, and so halve global poverty by 2015.

This track will include:

  • Introductory session and workshop on advocacy
  • Advocacy case studies from the region
  • Overview of the Micah Challenge campaign globally
  • Case studies from Micah Challenge national campaigns
  • Workshops on forming and building national Micah Challenge campaigns across the region

Sharing experience

We are seeking expressions of interest from Micah Network members and other who would like to share their experience in integral mission in the context of our consultation themes - relief and development, HIV/AIDs and advocacy.

If you are interested in presenting a seminar or workshop on the themes we have listed, please send a short outline of your proposed topic to Jane Furniss ic@micahnetwork.org.

All participants are encouraged to bring brochures or other materials to share their organisation's work with others. We will have an exhibition of these during the consultation.

Other networking opportunities

There will be free time each day to interact together, and two evenings after dinner will be available for networking or relaxation.

Micah Network is happy to facilitate interest group meetings on request. For example, a number of theological colleges are already planning to meet in free time to discuss integration of HIV/AIDS issues into their curricula.

The consultation will be held at the Ambassador Hotel, Jomtien, which is two hours by bus from Bangkok city center or Bangkok Airport.

Participants are requested to arrive in Jomtien by Sunday afternoon, 27 November, in time for registration after 2pm and program start at 4pm. The program finishes on Thursday 1 December at 12.30 pm.

Accommodation is twin share.

Transport

Transport between Bangkok (either airport or city centre) and the venue will be provided at regular intervals. We will advise details to you after you register.

Funding

Unfortunately Micah Network does not have funding available for delagates to attend. We encourage you to plan early and to seek funding support from your usual support agencies if necessary to enable your participation.

Cost

The cost per person for participation (including accommodation and meals) is USD$300 (for paid-up Micah Network members) or US$325 for all other participants.

The conference fee is converted to GBP for on-line payment as GBP 165 for paid up Micah Network members or GBP 180 for all other participants. (You will need to select which category you are, below).
